ANIMATION VIDEOS
From animated lower thirds and titles to fully animated explainer videos, you’d be hard-pressed to find a video
without some form of animation. Even animated titles will add that professional polish to a video while adding very little to the overall budget.
ANIMATION IS SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST ANIMATED TITLES
Animation shines over other formats.
With animated graphs, pie charts, and tables, animation adds flow, rhythm, sound, and music to what can otherwise be a boring presentation. Animation makes complex concepts more palatable, and that’s why it is used so extensively in explainer videos.
Even more powerful animation can take a taboo or a confronting subject and soften the delivery so that your message is more accessible. With animation, you can create characters that can break down cultural barriers and reach a broader audience.
ANIMATION WILL SAVE YOU MONEY!
With animation you have total control over the outcome because all the assets are created in the edit, no location shooting is required. Characters can fly, they can be set in space or deep under the sea; the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Updating the video only requires updating the assets in the edit rather than scheduling expensive reshoots on location.
HOW AN ANIMATED VIDEO COMES TOGETHER.
Planning is crucial and it always starts with a script and storyboard. There are different ways a script can come into play. Sometimes the client will supply a script for review. Other times the client will supply us with a list of key points they wish to make, or a manual, press release, or other written material, from which we generate the script. The stage of your script is something you want to discuss on initial inquiry. Once the script is finalized we ––draw up the storyboards.
Some of the other elements for developing an animated video are:
The Colour palette dictates the mood and feel of the animation. This is often based on the company’s brand guide.
Character and setting design documents: You’ll start to see your animation come to life with these drawings, of the scenery and animated characters to feature in your animated video.
Animated storyboards: Now you’ll really start to get a feel for the way the whole animation will move. At this stage, it’s just animated panels, with a rough voice-over and the music, but it’s enough to iron out any pacing issues. At this stage, we also make sure that the visuals complement the narrative and that there isn’t any unnecessary repetition.
Once the animated storyboards are approved, we move to create the final animation complete with a mastered soundtrack that includes sound effects, music, and the final voice-over.
Because of the heavy editing workload, it can take longer to finalise an animated video so it helps to plan early. A detailed schedule is key, so make sure to discuss any deadlines at the initial inquiry.
